Rules regarding Ranking of teams
(NSFL rules, North Shore Football League)
- The NSFL rules governing the ranking of teams in the standings are as follow :
- Scoring :
- 2 points added to the winning team's total points.
- 1 points added to each team in a tie
- 0 points added to the losing team
- Standing:
- According to the total amount of points
A team is ranked according to the amoint of points accumulated during the season.
- If teams are tied in the total amount of points :
When teams are tied in the total amount of points accumulated in the season, the rules require to compare their game results against each other. The team having won more games, takes the superior rank of the two. Example:
| Points |
Team |
Wins |
| 8 |
Gold team |
4 |
| 6 |
Blue Team |
3 |
| 6 |
Red Team |
3 |
In this case, the blue and the red team played against each other once in the season and the Blue team won. They take the lead in the standings.
- If teams are tied in the amount of points and have the same amount of game won against each other:
When teams are tied in the total amount of points accumulated in the season, and have won the same amount of game against each other, they will then be compared to the team ranked right above them. The team having accumulated the most points against the team ranked above them, takes the lead in the standings. Example:
| Points |
Team |
Wins |
| 8 |
Gold team |
4 |
| 6 |
Blue team |
3 |
| 6 |
Red team |
3 |
In this case the Blue team and the Red team have won one game each, against each other. However, the Blue team have won one game against the Gold team and the Red team have lost one game against the Gold team. The Blue team takes the lead in front of the Red team in the standings.
- If teams are tied, have the same amount of game won against each other, and have won the same amount of game against the team ranked right above them :
When teams are tied, have the same amount of goam won against each other and have won the same amount of game against the team ranked right above them, then the team with the least amount of "points against" in the season's total, takes the lead in the standing.
- If teams are tied, have the same amount of game won against each other, and have won the same amount of game against the team ranked right above them, and have the same amount of "points against":
In this case, the team with the most amount of "points for" in the season's total, takes the lead in the standing.
