On being a good sports parent

* Be positive. Cheer for the entire team as well as your child.

* Encourage your child with your attendance at practices and games, but leave the instructions to the coaches

* Refrain from yelling at the coaches or referees. They are volunteers, treat them with respect.

* Be polite to the other team. It's OK to acknowledge a good play.

* Don't embarrass your child by yelling criticism or reminding of previous errors. Kids are often hard enough on themselves. Encourage them.

* Have a good time.  If your child sees you enjoying the game and having fun, they are more likely to have fun too.

* Praise your child's effort despite the outcome of the game.

* Under no circumstances is alcohol, in any form, permitted at games or practices, in the park or parking lot.

* Remember that you are a role model. Your child will learn how to act by mirroring the behaviors you exhibit.

* Tell your kids you love them no matter, win or lose.

* Any discussion with coaches regarding field time for a child, should be addressed 24 hours after the end of a game to allow for a civil conversation.

* Please remember, the coaches are volunteers who freely give of their free time to coach your child. If you have questions or comments, please choose the right moment to address them.

Thank you and let's have some fun!
